Early game rebalancing

Post by Tuck on Fri Jul 19, 2013 5:39 pm

I've noticed that certain starter Pokemon have been completely marginalized in favor of more powerful alternatives... I know that this is canonically intended, but I just don't see many redeeming qualities in selecting Igglybuff, Clefa, or Azurill - three of the Fairy Pokemon with very limitted tools both at early levels and later levels aside from TMs.

I would highly suggest adding softboiled or some other moves that would seem like they would match these Fairy pokemon, or something else (anything!) to really make it worth it to choose any of the weaker starters.

Did you tell him Egg Bomb deals 120 damage in a 2 tile range AoE? And that Bestow in game gives +1 PP to him or allies around him. Just sayian.

I do agree that the weaker starters could be stronger, but the thing is that if we make their moves stronger, then the stronger Pokemons moves become stronger... It's really hard to balance out this way - I'll see what I can do though.

Thanks for giving consideration to it, Zete. I understand why it can be difficult to balance to work every Pokemon into the scheme of things.

He understands how powerful those moves are, but he just didn't want to suffer through the first 38 levels of life being dependent on his allies for 80% of his damage. I personally -like- that that's how it is for Happiny and consider Happiny one of the most balanced starters, but there are some that are just not rewarding to play at all.

We'll try to make Pound something like 55 dmg for 3pp, hopefully it doesn't break too many Pokemons lol.
